Based on the book written by Tony Kushner and composed by Jeanine Tesori, Caroline, or Change, is a musical about how people react to an incredible amount of change.

Set during the Civil Rights Movement, this play centers around Caroline Thibodeaux, a young maid who struggles to make ends meet while taking care of her family during one of the most turbulent times in American history. Provocative and thought provoking, Caroline, or Change challenges its audience to closely examine the many complexities of personal relationships, social justice, class, and race.

The Guardian describes Caroline, or Change as “One of the most gloriously disruptive, completely distinctive musicals of the past 20 years” (Clapp), and to this day, the play continues to compel audiences across the country. Clapp, S.
