The Black Squirrel Winds formed almost ten years ago as a resident faculty ensemble at Kent State University's Hugh A. Glauser School of Music. The group is dedicated to performing exceptional wind music, promoting chamber music and educating young people. Named in honor of the unofficial mascot of Kent State, the group includes Diane Rechner (flute), Danna Sundet (oboe), Amitai Vardi (clarinet), Mark DeMio (bassoon) and Kent Larmee (horn).

Funding is provided by the Local 4 Music Fund, Leonard DiCosimo, president, the Music Performance Trust Fund, and Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.
