Funk a Deli (formerly known as Yiddishe Cup) plays klezmer and soul music -- everything from Yiddish classics to Aretha Franklin. They'll play everything from "Midnight Train to Georgia" to "Romania, Romania." Bandleader Bert Stratton, said about the band’s new name, "It's all soul music to me. I changed the band's name after 30 years because I got sick of playing only 'Hava Nagila' every weekend." Funk a Deli welcomes special guests Cantor Kathryn Wolfe Sebo (You know her! She's the terrific, beloved cantor at The Temple-Tifereth Israel.), Steven Greenman (Klez violinist who has played all over the world including Circleville, Ohio.), Marimba player Greg Selker (Founder of the late great Kleveland Klezmorim. He hasn't played in public this century!), and Shawn Fink (The singing Jewish-radio DJ who does oy-robics, aka jumping jacks, while performing.) to the 40th annual Workmen's Circle Yiddish Concert. Michael Wex, author of Born to Kvetch and a popular guest on Terry Gross's NPR program Fresh Air, will emcee the evening.
