Funk a Deli (formerly known as Yiddishe Cup) plays klezmer and soul music -- everything from Yiddish classics to Aretha Franklin. Bandleader Bert Stratton, said about the band’s new name, "It's all soul music to me. I changed the band's name after 30 years because I got sick of playing only 'Hava Nagila' every weekend." Funk a Deli welcomes special guests Cantor Kathryn Wolfe Sebo, Steven Greenman, and more to the annual Workmen's Circle Yiddish Concert. Michael Wex, author of Born to Kvetch and a popular guest on Terry Gross's NPR program Fresh Air, will emcee the evening.
